Sending Chrismas Cheer

Well the silly season is upon us...so sending you some Christmas cheer for a wonderful festive season full of fun and laughter.

During the Chrissy and New Year period, the Messagemark online shop will still be open, however there may be a slight delay in delivery due to running on a skeleton staff member (me!) from 24th December to 9th Jan 2012. I will do what I can to deliver your cards within 7 working days, but do apologise in advance if there are any delays.

Wherever you are, however you celebrate your Christmas, I wish you peace, joy and happiness!

Hello "Miss K"

My friend Mardi found this vintage top and thought of me when she spotted the label. But who would have thought a green vintage top found in a second hand store could cause such a stir!

Since seeing this my brain has been going into creative overdrive and I am starting to lack sleep over it! I am really drawn to this name and so have decided to launch a new label called "Miss K". I feel it is a good brand to encompass all of the creative projects I find myself involved in.

Messagemark products will of course still live on, but you may just find the product range expand even further when mixed with my other creative projects. I am still working out the nuts and bolts of rolling this out, but I am ready for a fresh new direction. Bring it on, 2012 will bring change and focus.

Bit of a brain dump, so probably not making too much sense right now. Exciting times though!

Jingle Bells + Furry Friends

Hestor wanted to help me out this year by modelling some of my Christmas range. I must say he did really well at trying to act natural and not look straight at the camera! I think his feline beauty kind of out shines my gift tags though! To see the entire photo shoot with Hestor check out more pics here >

The 2011 Christmas range is now available to buy online. Don't forget we donate 20% of the total sale to Cure4CF Foundation when you buy through our online store. Please help Cure4CF reach their goal, to develop a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

Trackside Breaky

On the weekend Denis and I were delighted to visit the very first pop up "Breakfast Rave" held in the Barossa Valley. Organised by my dear friend Cherie, along a team of like minded foodies from the Barossa, the Rave is a spontaneous community event expected to pop up in various iconic Barossa locations.
Sunday's event was held at the Angaston Train Station. No longer in use, it was the perfect backdrop for this sustainable breakfast affair. I love the fact that a new breath of life was given to this old building even if only for a day!
It was such a warm and friendly atmosphere, with locals catching up, dogs happily hanging out, and kids entertaining themselves along the old train track. The train station was looking extremely well dressed with hanging baskets full of succulents, hessian table cloths, bus blind tea towels, and this gorgeous bunting made from recycled flour bags & hand printed fabric.
We even got to take home an heirloom tomato plant in a compostable pot as a thank you for supporting the first event! Actually the whole event was compostable ... all cups, plates, forks, bin bags and food scraps were compostable and thrown straight into the Rave's compost! I'm impressed!
Breakfast was divine, Spanish style slow-cooked beans with free range poached eggs, grilled sourdough and a dollop of natural yoghurt - all for only $10. Oh yeah, top that with some coriander and chilli!

Finished with a gluten free chocolate brownie by Scullery Made Tea. YUMBO! And I must say, I think I had the best Mocha I've ever had from Barossa Coffee Roasters - a big call but it is true!

Keep in the loop on The Breakfast Rave Facebook page or check out more photos from Sunday's event here >

Brushing up on my German!

Denis and I are heading on an adventure tomorrow to Munich. Part of the trip is regarded as work and the rest is PLAY. But to be honest the whole trip is going to be amazing. My very talented and creative husband Denis is being interviewed by Red Bull Media for the local European TV network about his Ball of Light photography.

This amazing place Hallstatt (pictured above) is one of the incredible locations we are hoping to visit. We think the Ball of Light will fit quite well into the Alps!

The Messagemark online shop will be open while we are away traveling, but please note that there may be a slight delay in receiving your order. When I return I will send out orders from Monday the 19th September.

North Star Hotel Melrose

Last weekend we hit the road and headed up north to Melrose for a couple of nights and stayed at the North Star Hotel (a Messagemark stockist). Denis and my friend Georgia are currently featured in an art exhibition at the Hotel which runs until mid October. So we thought we would make a weekend of it, head up on Friday to hang the art and then be there for the exhibition opening Saturday evening.

Georgia and I had a bit of spare time on the Saturday in between walking around the town, talking to sheep and little lambs and eating giant freckles from the corner shop; so we decided to re-arrange the retail area in the Hotel. I threw an old book shelf in the car as I thought it would come in handy for displaying the Messagemark range.

I'm really pleased with our efforts. There is a true science behind visual merchandising and it was fun to help Georgia work out the best display option for these products. The result was clear, sales started to pick up within the first day and many people were popping over to the area for a closer look. That's what we like to see!

I have to admit I think my Dinky-Dye range looked right at home at the North Star Hotel!

Germany here we come...

My very talented and creative husband Denis has received an invitation from Red Bull Media to travel to Munich for a TV interview!!! Being his number one Manager, I will be accompanying him and we have decided to stay some extra days to look around the nearby countries.

We are both very excited as this will be our first trip to Europe! Plus there just happens to be a full moon while we are there so I don't think we will be getting much sleep - Denis's Ball of Light is long exposure photography captured under the light of a full moon.

I think we might have to ask Red Bull for a good supply while there for extra energy!

Just letting this all sink in at the moment! Very proud of Denis and what we have created together. (www.balloflight.com.au)

Hestor's Birthday

Hestor has graced our lives with his quirky personality for less than a year so thought it would be nice to celebrate his first Birthday with us (A good excuse for a party too). So Brittany and I made him a special 'Mouse' cake, and we gave him a very stylie retro cool cat bowl by ModPet on Etsy.

I think he was quite happy with his party. Not too interested in the cake though, but that's OK, more for us!

Paper Plane Creations

My nephew Harrison made me this very special gift for my Birthday last month. Apparently he spent most of his Saturday afternoon planning and making this present for me.

What more could a girl want but a bag of hand made individually unique paper planes? The best bit was the note - totally love the kisses crossed out at the bottom (Harrison hates kisses with a passion!). So the hugs will have to do, and I love the fact that he thinks I'm 'cool' just like paper planes!

Dinky-Dye Trio

Louisa from Victor Print & Design recently purchased my Dinky-Dye trio. It is so wonderful seeing the prints framed and in their new surroundings. I'm really loving them in the white frames (RIBBA from IKEA), makes the images POP.

So so happy that Louisa wanted to add a touch of retro Australian to her mid-century and industrial styled design studio.

BTW the friendly folk over at Victor Print & Design are currently running a photo competition with some great prizes up for grabs. Check it out >

Happy Birthday to Me!

I'm so excited, Denis gave me a Silhouette SD craft cutter for my birthday on the weekend! I'm really looking forward to playing around with different paper weights and designs, and also working out some unique uses for this crafty toy.

It is basically like a printer that you connect directly to your computer, but instead of printing it cuts different materials including magnet, card, adhesive, and fabric.

Who knows where this experimentation will lead, and what new products might be born. My brain is already filling up with ideas!

Foundabout is born...

After sharing vintage shopping and styling knowledge for 2 years, my friend Mardi and I have decided to extend our long term friendship and love of the 'unique' into a business.

We both have an eye for design, unique styles, and mixing old with new, so merging our talents was the next logical step.

Foundabout is simply a play on words making a suitable name for a shop that sells lovely found items to furnish, decorate and brighten up your self or space. We also appreciate vintage and retro, and products that are fair trade or kind to our earth in production and materials, so Foundabout also touches on the lifecycle of a product.

We both love to find unique items and where possible breathe new life into them. You can't keep us away from op shops, garage sales, anything home made, and even hard rubbish collections. So Foundabout has given us the opportunity to find and revive till our hearts content!

Online store coming soon...

Cutest Stand Ever

I just happened to be positioned right next to the cutest stand ever at the recent Bowerbird Bazaar!

Herbert and Friends had a gorgeous display of rolling green hills and trees finished with softies to die for. My fave was... actually I couldn't pick a favorite, they were all absolutely delightful.

Each cuddly character has their own name and personality profile, i.e. lampshade designer, bongo player in a band, learning dutch and french, taking a Belgian cooking course etc!

Best of all each character is handmade using bamboo felt, cotton fabric and eco-friendly stuffing.

Our Sunny Lounge...

It's been one week since moving in and things are already starting to take shape at our Retro Abode. The floors have come up a treat, and with the old curtains gone the lounge room is now light, bright and airy. Just how I like it. Bring on the sunny winter afternoons!

I decided that we needed a round dining table to fit the shape of the room better so luckily this week I found an original (mint condition) Parker setting with matching lounge suite in a gorgeous sage green on E-Bay.

Now all we need to do is purchase a new light fitting, paint the walls, have the blinds cleaned, and bring in our floor rug once the floors have completely hardened in a couple of weeks. Oh yeah, and I must remove the skirt on the new retro lounge to reveal the teak legs!
