My Home

Our Retro Abode
Earlier this year I had the pleasure of meeting Elle from elle ds photography. She popped over for a photo shoot for local publication Dear Eleanor. We hung out for a few hours sipping tea, talking retro finds and camera gear! Here are snippets of our home through Elle's lens.

I really love Elle's eye for photography - do keep her in mind if you are planning a wedding or any other event that you would like beautifully and uniquely recorded.

Toodle-pip,

Festive Decor

I'm so delighted to have a touch of Messagemark featured on the Houzz Blog.

Adelaide's talented interior stylist and all round creative chick Rebekah Cichero from One Small Room has given us her soft and fresh perspective on festive home decorations. I really love the fact that 'red' isn't the main feature here being a bluey/green kind of gal myself.

The photo spread also features a range of local SA and Australian designer makers, an eclectic mix that seems to come together perfectly. The lovely photos were captured by Jeni Lee of Carousel Media.

You can spot the Messagemark Polyhedra Garland cutely hanging from the Deer head above the mantle in the children's bedroom which perfectly ties in the pinks and greens used to decorate the other areas of the house.

I'm doing the retro twist...

Seriously, Denis and I are over the moon. I ducked over to our corner deli early this morning and the latest hot of the press Inside Out Magazine was sitting there looking all bright and colourful saying here I am, I'm over here...

'Quick, DENIS IT IS HERE'... I waited for him to come and join me as we both sat in our lounge so excited about this moment. We have patiently waited for this very day since the whole process began in August 2012.
To see our lovingly renovated retro abode featured in Inside Out Magazine is a massive achievement for us! We sat there drooling over the 6 page spread, reminiscing about how much we have actually done to our place within less than 2 years. Totally chuffed that our renovation is stylie enough to grace the pages of a glossy interiors mag!

It is so interesting to see how an interview translates into a story and how the photos pull it all together. I really love what Clare wrote... she captured our story and the personality of our style and renovation process so well. I particularly like the opening paragraph, and I really do wish I had magical powers like Samantha Stevens from Bewitched!

Anyhow, if you have made it to retrodelights.com.au after reading our story, thanks for looking! We still have lots to share with you, bathroom reno, converting a garage into a photographic studio, and a new master bedroom suite and living area upstairs. Yes we have decided to re-configure our place so the renovations continue!
Thanks for following our reno journey, Kyrie & Denis xo

Sharing Dinky-Dye Love

IMG_7731

I was so thrilled to receive an email this morning from a customer who has based the decor of her child's bedroom entirely around my Dinky-Dye range of prints. She even made a giant crochet floor rug to match! How awesome does this look! Loving the wall colour and that floor rug is super! Next on the to do list is a patchwork quilt using the D.I.Y Cut and Sew Kits. That's one creative and inspiring customer!

Inspired by "Frankie"

Combining my love of all things retro, with interior styling totally equates to the ultimate job for me! This week I had the pleasure of working with Jane, the owner of "Three Card Trick", a cute retro store located in Colonel Light Gardens, Adelaide.

We had an awesome day starting at 9am and finishing up around 7pm. Although, I got home at 9.30pm because I didn't want to leave - Such a cool space to hang out in!

The shop was in a little bit of a chaotic state, so thought it would be a great opportunity to create a time-lapse to record the transformation (and our hard work!).

The brief was to bring back some order to the store, remove clutter, and create a warm welcoming environment for customers when they visit the shop. Jane was featured in Frankie Magazine, and when I first met her in Three Card Trick I totally felt like the shop was like a 'bricks and mortar' version of the mag. So that was our styling inspiration, and all day we kept saying, oh that's so Frankie!

Organised Chaos?
oh, that's so Frankie!
So any Frankie fans out there, you will definitely love Three Card Trick! If you do pop in, tell Jane I sent you!

'Up We Pop' Logo Design

This week I was asked to design a logo to use on printed, online marketing materials and a shop window for One Small Room's 'Up We Pop' Shop. The key was to create a design that worked with the existing OSR brand, but also something that portrayed the style and products of OSR, and the 'pop up' shop concept overall.
Considering OSR specialises in vintage industrial and upmarket design, I decided to create a logo that had a vintage sign look and feel about it.

I decided to create a bold logo that would work well overlaid onto photographs as well as a window graphic. Incorporating the One Small Room web address into the logo helped to link it back to the One Small Room business for situations where this logo was used as a separate entity.

Initial Concepts

Colour choice was easy once a background image was selected for the email and postcard promo. The vintage green worked well with the finished logo -simply inspired by the green book on the desk!

I am very happy with the end result, and more importantly so are Bek, Tim and Georgia from One Small Room. A fun way to start the 2013 working year!
If local do check out this awesome space at 20 Ebenezer Place, Adelaide.
