Some Serious Work...

On Friday we had another clothing shoot for Surface Art. Me the model, Denis (my other half) the photographer.
It is a jam packed day and we have been known to squeeze in up to 60 clothing changes into the one day... Whoah!
It can be hard thinking up new poses that don't look too try hard if you know what I mean. So in between a few shots to loosen up I did a few jumps. Denis, quick as a flash on his trigger captured the above pics of my crazy jumps.
Then I decided to do some interpretive dance LOL!
I love working with Denis on these shoots. One day when we are old and grey, we will fondly think back to the days when I would model and he was the photographer!

My Home

Our Retro Abode
Earlier this year I had the pleasure of meeting Elle from elle ds photography. She popped over for a photo shoot for local publication Dear Eleanor. We hung out for a few hours sipping tea, talking retro finds and camera gear! Here are snippets of our home through Elle's lens.

I really love Elle's eye for photography - do keep her in mind if you are planning a wedding or any other event that you would like beautifully and uniquely recorded.

I'm doing the retro twist...

Seriously, Denis and I are over the moon. I ducked over to our corner deli early this morning and the latest hot of the press Inside Out Magazine was sitting there looking all bright and colourful saying here I am, I'm over here...

'Quick, DENIS IT IS HERE'... I waited for him to come and join me as we both sat in our lounge so excited about this moment. We have patiently waited for this very day since the whole process began in August 2012.
To see our lovingly renovated retro abode featured in Inside Out Magazine is a massive achievement for us! We sat there drooling over the 6 page spread, reminiscing about how much we have actually done to our place within less than 2 years. Totally chuffed that our renovation is stylie enough to grace the pages of a glossy interiors mag!

It is so interesting to see how an interview translates into a story and how the photos pull it all together. I really love what Clare wrote... she captured our story and the personality of our style and renovation process so well. I particularly like the opening paragraph, and I really do wish I had magical powers like Samantha Stevens from Bewitched!

Anyhow, if you have made it to retrodelights.com.au after reading our story, thanks for looking! We still have lots to share with you, bathroom reno, converting a garage into a photographic studio, and a new master bedroom suite and living area upstairs. Yes we have decided to re-configure our place so the renovations continue!
Thanks for following our reno journey, Kyrie & Denis xo

Super Fast Set-up

Denis being the camera geek that he is, couldn't resist the opportunity to set up a time-lapse of us setting up the Messagemark stand at Bowerbird Bazaar. I wish that we could work this fast normally!

Enjoy!

Instameet #5

A few of my Instagram pics from Instameet #5 More >
On the weekend I went to my first "Instameet". What's that you ask? Well, it is a small group of Instagram Photographers who catch up occasionally for a creative photographic project. This time the meet was held at the SA Museum - the home of endless photo opportunities!

It was a great way to casually pass a few hours on a Saturday morning, plus there was time for a quick lunch and catch up after all the serious photography took place. If you are into Instagram and live in Adelaide why not join the group on Facebook to be notified when and where the next meet is! It really is a neat way to meet new people and expand your creativity!

Germany here we come...

My very talented and creative husband Denis has received an invitation from Red Bull Media to travel to Munich for a TV interview!!! Being his number one Manager, I will be accompanying him and we have decided to stay some extra days to look around the nearby countries.

We are both very excited as this will be our first trip to Europe! Plus there just happens to be a full moon while we are there so I don't think we will be getting much sleep - Denis's Ball of Light is long exposure photography captured under the light of a full moon.

I think we might have to ask Red Bull for a good supply while there for extra energy!

Just letting this all sink in at the moment! Very proud of Denis and what we have created together. (www.balloflight.com.au)

Nesting at Bowerbird

Messagemark is starting to prepare our nest for our 3 day possie at the Bowerbird Bazaar 6-8th May. We will be located in the main hall in the middle towards the back at stall #42. This will be our fourth Bowerbird event and we're still looking forward to it as if it was the first!

If you have never attended then it is well worth the effort - I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with all the eye candy to devour!

And while in our corner do pop next door to stall #41 and say hi to my lovely husband Denis (Denis Smith Photography). He is hard to miss with his incredible light painting photography named "Ball of Light". Men also find Denis' work intriguing, so send your partners over to his stand and he can entertain them while you shop!

Surrounded by Light!

We have had an interesting couple of weeks mixed with both major excitement and emotional reflection.

My husband Denis launched his "Ball of Light" movie by Sam Collins, and already it has had over 29,000 views globally. We can’t believe how much the movie has touched people on so many different levels. It is definitely going viral!

We have been a bit emotional since the release of the movie as we are both overwhelmed and very happy that we have made it through the tough times... together. We were in a very dark place, and now we are surrounded by light! (literally!!)

I have spent the past 2 weeks working on an online shop so people can purchase Denis' wonderful Ball of Light creations. We launched the shop last night and when we woke up this morning there was already an order from America sitting in my inbox. How wonderful!

Go Girl!

My mate Mardi (from LittleLuv) was featured in the Eastern Courier yesterday, a brief story about her Charity trek in May.

We are very excited to support Mardi by hosting a fund raising / exhibition this March 16th. Proceeds from ticket and print sales will be dontated directly to Plan’s GirlsFund.

Plan’s GirlsFund was established to directly help identify and respond to the barriers girls face in communities. They recognise that discrimination against girls and women is one of the main underlying causes of child poverty. Plan’s projects in health, education and microfinance ensure that girls aren’t left behind.

The exhibition LIGHT OF HOPE features the unique photographic light painting by my favourite photographer Denis Smith!  And the event is taking place at the Messagemark Design Studio, so this is also your chance to see where all the Messagemark magic happens!

Time Standing Still

For Christmas 2010, I decided to scan my parents old slide collection from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and make a photo book for a gift for my family. I bought a slide scanner off Ebay, and then scanned the collection of old family photos, both BW and colour. It took quite while to adjust each image, sharpness, brightness and contrast, and some of the images needed cleaning up a tad.

It was a fascinating project because I had never seen some of the photos before, or only seen them once or twice during a family slide evening!

I called the book, Time Standing Still. My family absolutely love it and now I often find myself sitting down looking through the book,  analysing the clothes, the hair, the poses... so retro cute!

This is my fave photo. My two sisters playing on the front lawn. Love the composition, the old car in the background and little Susan about to catch the ball!

Online Polaroid Maker

If you've ever wished you had a Polaroid Camera to play with then here is the coolest app. I found this via Little Paper Lane (thanks Jayde). It's a small application for Mac or PC that is so simple to use. Drag and drop your JPEG images onto the little camera and a little Polaroid appears on your screen. Be patient though, you have to wait for the image to develop just like the real thing!

The result, an authentic looking pic. See some more photo samples here or download for FREE at Poladroid.

The Light Fantastic

It's been busy week building a new website and brand dedicated to my husband's Ball of Light photography project. We had a deadline to get this site launched this week because Denis was interviewed for a feature for an online US publication Vevant.

Some people ask why do a dedicated website for Ball of Light... Well, we think the Ball of Light deserves its own canvas – after all, it seems to have developed an identity of its own now!

Beautiful Ball of Light

Isn't this just beautiful? This is my husband's stunning work. I love seeing the "Ball of Light" images in a collection like this - the colours work so well together.

I can also see a range of cards in this... and prints, and possibly a book!! See more on Denis's flickr page here or his website denissmith.com.au
